Ordering tyres online: the details to check before you buy
You have found the model, the price looks right, and then several extra letters follow the size. This is exactly where a second look pays off. A good order starts with a complete description of your fitment and a clear comparison, not twenty open browser tabs.
Record both axles, not just the first tyre
Note the size, load and speed ratings, plus markings such as XL, HL, manufacturer approval or runflat technology. Photograph the front and rear tyres. With different axle sizes, ordering four identical tyres could already be the wrong shopping list.
The existing tyres provide useful information, but are not an approval document. On a used car or a vehicle with changed wheels, the current combination may differ from the intended specification. Check it against the documents for the car and wheels. Our size guide and rating guide help you read the markings.
Compare a specific version, not just a name
A model name can cover many individual products. Matching size does not necessarily mean matching load capacity, technology or vehicle-specific tuning. Write the full descriptions next to each other. An EAN or manufacturer part number, where available, helps identify offers for the same article.
The European Commission identifies size and service description as important replacement parameters. A good label does not replace this technical selection. Only then compare the qualities that matter on your routes among suitable versions. Source: European Commission.
Turn a unit price into a complete order
A tyre offer is not necessarily a complete wheel. Check what is included and which services cost extra. Decide the quantity, delivery address and fitting arrangements. With a staggered setup, list the front pair and rear pair separately.
A simple order sheet is enough: full specification and quantity for each axle, season, workshop and required date. This makes an axle mix-up easier to spot than a long list of saved favourites.
Resolve uncertainty before ordering
Have outstanding vehicle or wheel approval questions checked by a qualified workshop or the appropriate vehicle representative. Do not order two alternatives assuming one can simply be returned. The seller’s conditions still apply.
Our recommendation: narrow the choice to two or three technically suitable candidates, then compare relevant performance, price and fitting costs. That turns an approximate match into a reasoned purchase. See our fitting information for the next steps.
